manila: part I

welcome to streets of Manila.. the pics below present a very biased view since I was looking for some interesting
subjects and it may leave you with a wrong impression.. in fact, the city itself has been recently developing very fast and
some of its areas remind more of hk central than a ghetto.. but this is much more interesting, isn't it?

southside

one may think that in this part of the world dogs are a great culinary delight. As a matter of fact, not too far away to the
north, in the Guangdong province, ppl eat " whatever is alive and moving with its back upward" (citing my Chinese friend).

HK seems to be much more westernized.. not only ppl feel rather disgusted with eating dogs' meat, dress them up in some
funky dog wear, but even share tables in restaurants..

ninety six cars

hk island is one of the most densely populated places on the planet. In an island-city built
on the slopes of a mountain, the only way to go is up. And up, and up. The result is a forest
of enormous skyscrapers. After a while, though, you realize that there is sth odd about this
city and this is to do with cars, or rather, their absence. Throughout the world as soon as
people can afford a car, they buy one. In hk, however, with one of the world's highest
salary rates, only 3% of the population owns a car!

Anyway, traffic jams can happen...
